HOME ALONE INSIDE MY HEAD - Self-Inflicted Field
Recordings by Sam Amidon
"My head is my only house, unless it rains"
-Captain Beefheart
A free album, a gift, a nice present from me to you,
that you can download.
This album is a collection
of field recordings of myself. It was recorded on my portable Radioshack
tape recorder in Yonkers, NY and Brattleboro, VT during the spring of
2003.
It is an album of improvisation, old-time music, field recordings, and
"outsider" music.
I'd love to hear your feedback- email me: samidonATgmail.com.
Sam Amidon: fiddle, banjo, harmonica, piano, singing, tape
recorder.
Notes
All songs were improvised/composed by Sam Amidon, copywright
2003, with the following exceptions:
The tune in "Will Adam" is a tune called "Sally Gal"
from the playing of Will Adam.
"Too Slow" is from the playing of the late, great fife player
Otha (or Othar) Turner.
"Cuckoo" is traditional, from the playing of John Snipes.
"John Bell Tune" is an eastern European tune I learned from
John Bell and Michael Romanyshin.
"Apple Tree Blossom" is a traditional fiddle tune that I learned
from Bruce Greene.
Some music that inspired this project:
Sachiko M and Otomo Yoshihide "29092000"
Arthur Doyle "Alabama Feeling" and "The Songwriter"
Tony Conrad "Outside The Dream Syndicate"
Greg Kelley "Trumpet"
"High Atmosphere" recorded by John Cohen
"Southern Journey" recorded by Alan Lomax
"Afro-American Folk Music from Tate and Panola Counties Mississippi"
recorded by David Evans
